Lead free, "Green" Program
As part of the environmental movement in the United States, lead, a known carcinogen, is being eliminated in most industries. The semiconductor industry is now being considered for its use of hazardous materials, such as lead and halogen materials. The changes will be made across the entire industry, so that one environmentally conscious company does not bear the sole brunt of creating new processes, and an industry-wide infrastructure is created as well.
When lead was first introduced into electronics, there was a learning curve of how to create a reliable process while working with lead. Removing the lead is just another step in the path of knowledge; our wisdom of how to work without lead will expand if we keep pushing to increase what we know.
We may even open the way to new products as we further our knowledge of how materials interact.*
ASAT is committed to participating in lead free “green” solutions, and many of the Company’s current packages offer a “green” option. Click here to view the Sony Green Partnership Certificate

Definition of Lead Free, RoHS-Compliant and GreenPackages for Semiconductor Devices
ASAT defines a package as Lead free, Halogen Free, Antimony Free, ROHS or Green-compliant when the component elements of the package do not contain the following elements intentionally added to the manufacturing process and do not exceed allowable limits specified below. This definition is restricted only to the product and does not include packaging materials such as IC trays, plastic bands, plastic covers, paper-based boxes, blister tapes, etc.
