Eric Thompson, Chief Restructuring Officer, Interim Chief Executive Officer

Eric E. Thompson was named interim CEO and chief restructuring officer (CRO) of ASAT in August 2009.  Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Thompson spent nearly a decade leading several successful turnarounds and financial restructurings for companies in Asia, Europe and the United States, first with Alvarez & Marsal and most recently with Harmony Capital Partners.  While at Alvarez & Marsal, Mr. Thompson served in several interim management positions as CEO, CRO, and strategic advisor. In 2006, he led Singapore-listed Daka Designs, which included the restructuring of a significant manufacturing and assembly business in Dongguan. His other notable engagements include Bridge Information Systems, Exodus Communications and Ihr Platz. Mr. Thompson holds an International Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University. 

 

Kei Hong Chua, Chief Financial Officer

Kei Hong Chua was appointed ASAT’s CFO in July 2007.  Prior to joining ASAT, Kei Hong was head of Standard Chartered Bank's Alternate Investment Group in China, where he was responsible for proprietary investments in special situations across Asia. Previously, Kei Hong served as a senior manager in Corporate Finance and Business Recovery Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Hong Kong and as a senior manager in Arthur Andersen's Global Corporate Finance - Corporate Restructuring Services in New York. In addition, he served as a founding partner and CFO of Vertical Think, Inc., a management and consulting firm for companies engaged in eBusiness. Kei Hong holds a bachelor of science degree in finance and accounting, graduating magna cum laude, from New York University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in the United States.

 

Joseph Martin, Chief Business Officer

From 1993 until he joined QPL International Holdings as Chief Executive Officer in 2004, Mr. Martin was with ASAT where he served in a number of senior level management positions, including Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning, Chief Operating Officer and as a director. From 1983 until he joined the Company, Mr. Martin was with Amkor Electronics where he held various senior level positions, including Vice President of European Sales and Vice President of Marketing for Amkor's advanced product lines. Prior to that, Mr. Martin held various sales, management and engineering positions with TRW, Thompson CSF, and Texas Instruments. Mr. Martin received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Lamar University.

 

John R. McMillan, Senior Vice President of Quality And Engineering

Mr. McMillan brings more than 20 years of semiconductor assembly and test experience to ASAT, including 19 years in various management positions at Amkor Technology where he was most recently Corporate Vice President of Quality, Reliability and Manufacturing Engineering. Mr. McMillan also served in several senior level positions in advanced product development and facilities management. In addition to his experience at Amkor, Mr. McMillan served as Director of Quality and Engineering at Tensolite Company, a division of the Carlisle Corporation, where he revamped quality control procedures and managed the transition of manufacturing operations to China from the U.S.

 

Jonathan Ross, General Counsel 

Mr. Ross brings almost 20 years of legal experience to ASAT, including ten years at the Wall Street firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and five years as senior in-house counsel at Bank of China (Hong Kong).  Mr. Ross has extensive experience in restructuring transactions both at Skadden, Arps as well as at the Bank of China (Hong Kong). At Skadden, Arps, Mr. Ross was involved in a variety of transactions involving acquisitions, corporate finance and initial public offerings both in China and elsewhere in the Far East.  Mr. Ross speaks Mandarin Chinese and reads Chinese. In addition to his legal experience, Mr. Ross was also one of the founding members and key driving forces in the growth of the Hong Kong Corporate Counsel Association, Hong Kong’s only association for in-house counsel run by in-house counsel. Mr. Ross holds a Master of Science degree in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh, a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Michigan, and a JD from Columbia Law School.

 

Tung Lok Li, Senior Consultant

Tung Lok Li has over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor sector. Mr. Li was previously Chairman of the Company's board of directors and has been a member of the Company's board of directors since October 1999.  Mr. Li served as ASAT’s Acting CEO from September 2006 until he relinquished his title in August 2009. Mr. Li is the founder of QPL Limited and continues to serve as the Chairman of the board of directors of QPL, which has been listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong since 1989. Mr. Li holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Cardiff.
